Every time I make a ham I feel like I am always stuck with leftovers. My leftover ham fettuccine alfredo is a simple, delicious meal. The best thing about this meal is you don’t need leftover ham. In fact, you don’t need ham at all. You can keep the dish meatless or use whatever meat you desire. It tastes great regardless.
All you need for this meal is leftover ham (or whatever meat you’d like), fettuccine noodles, peas, heavy cream, parmesan cheese, and pepper.
I start by boiling a pot of water for the fettuccine noodles. Then I begin to dice the ham. One thing I like to do is trim the fat from the ham. The meal is very heavy as it is with the heavy whipping cream so the less fat on the ham the better the flavor is in my opinion. I dice the ham into squares about the size of a penny or nickel, basically not too big not too small.
Once the ham is diced I heat up a separate pan with butter and toss the ham in to cook it up a little. Because I used honey baked ham I added Cajun seasoning to balance the sweet with a little spice. This step is totally optional and dependent on how much “sweet” you like.
By the time the ham is heated and seasoned, the water for the fettuccine should be at a rolling boil. Add your fettuccine to the water and cook 12-13 minutes (or until al dente). Once the ham is heated I remove the ham from the pan and add the rest of the butter. I simply add the heavy cream, let it heat up and add the cheese to thicken it up whisking as I go.
After the cheese has melted I toss back in the ham and also add the peas. At this point, the pasta is done and ready to be added as well. All that’s left is to mix everything up and plate it! I garnish with a little extra parmesan cheese and some crushed black pepper.
Here are the ingredients and the recipe for everyone to follow:
Leftover Ham Fettuccine Alfredo
- 10 oz Diced ham I like leftover honey baked ham
- 1 box Fettuccine pasta noodles
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup Grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup peas
- 2 tsp Black pepper
- 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning optional
In a large pot bring water to a boil. Add Fettuccine and cook for about 12 minutes or until al dente. Drain when done.
In a medium saucepan over medium heat melt 1 tbsp of butter.
Add in ham and cook for 2-3 minute.
Once ham is heated remove the ham from the pan.
Once the ham is removed add the remaining tbsp of butter.
Stir in cream and heat through. Stir in Parmesan cheese and pepper once the cream has been heated.
Mix the ham with the peas back in and keep on low heat or until sauce is desired thickness.
Toss in Fettuccine, mix together and server.
